AI assistance does not automatically disqualify a work, but merely providing prompts does not by itself establish the human control over expressive elements needed for protection. The specific human contribution matters. An output’s copyrightability is different from whether using it could infringe someone else’s rights. Review recognizable protected material, attribution obligations, and third-party assets. A service’s output terms describe its relationship with the user; they do not necessarily grant rights owned by another party. Keep records of source materials, licenses, edits, and the human creative work when publishing. For a consequential commercial or disputed use, obtain advice appropriate to the jurisdiction and facts. Treat legal conclusions as specific to the issue and date rather than making blanket claims that all AI output is free to use.
