KCCI reports that Drake University has been named a partner in Panama’s national artificial intelligence strategy. The university’s data analytics and AI bachelor’s program is scheduled to open in Panama City next August, and applications opened this week. Students can pursue an accelerated three-year Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics with an AI minor or a two-plus-two option split between Panama and Drake’s Des Moines campus.
KCCI reports that Drake University was named as a partner in Panama’s national artificial intelligence strategy at an international summit held at the end of July. The report identifies Drake’s data analytics and AI bachelor’s program as the basis for the partnership.
According to KCCI, the program is scheduled to open in Panama City next August. The article does not specify the year, and the supplied source does not include a public strategy document or primary partnership agreement for independent review.
Applications opened this week, KCCI reports. The program offers an accelerated three-year path to a Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics with a minor in artificial intelligence.
Students may instead choose a two-plus-two structure, spending two years in Panama and completing the final two years at Drake’s campus in Des Moines. The source does not state how many students will be admitted or whether the program is currently available to applicants outside Panama.
Varför det spelar roll
The partnership connects a U.S. university’s AI education program to a national strategy and creates a cross-border pathway for training students in data analytics and artificial intelligence. That could expand the local of AI-related talent and give students an option to complete part of their education in Panama. However, KCCI provides no details about Panama’s broader strategy, the program’s expected enrollment, accreditation, faculty, funding, or outcomes, and the partnership has not been independently confirmed in the supplied source.
A national AI strategy requires people who can work with data, build and evaluate AI systems, and apply those systems in institutions and businesses. A degree program explicitly tied to such a strategy could become part of Panama’s effort to build that workforce, although the source does not describe the strategy’s policy goals or implementation plans.
The two study pathways could make the partnership useful to different groups: students seeking a primarily Panama-based degree and students who want an international transfer route to Drake. Access, tuition, scholarships, visa requirements, accreditation, and delivery arrangements are not documented in the report.
The announcement is therefore a concrete education and workforce development move, but its eventual significance depends on execution and outcomes. KCCI’s report is the basis for the claims here; no independent confirmation or evidence of program performance is provided.

Vad du ska titta på härnäst
Key unknowns include the program’s exact launch date, tuition and financial aid, accreditation and admissions requirements, the roles of Drake and Panama, and whether the program will serve government or industry workforce needs. Future reporting should also establish the scope of Panama’s national AI strategy and whether the partnership produces measurable training, research, or deployment results.
Watch for Drake or Panamanian authorities to publish the partnership agreement, curriculum, accreditation status, admissions criteria, tuition, financial aid, and confirmed opening date.
The program’s enrollment, faculty composition, research opportunities, and relationships with Panamanian government agencies or employers will indicate whether it is primarily an academic offering or a broader national AI workforce initiative.
Because the report says applications have opened while the program is scheduled for a future August launch, prospective students should verify eligibility, costs, deadlines, and the precise year of commencement directly with the program.
