Nursing teams may use AI-assisted documentation and deterioration alerts as decision support. A 2026 NARRATE study compared 150 completed supervisor incident-investigation reports: 75 conventional reports and 75 reports from the NARRATE period. Reviewers scored World Health Organization incident-report completeness and an adapted Physician Documentation Quality Instrument for narrative quality. The study did not measure time saved in nursing documentation, and it did not assess transcription accuracy because the source audio or transcript was unavailable for independent comparison. NARRATE drafts were reviewed and edited by a supervisor before submission. The Epic Deterioration Index is a proprietary early-warning score, and a 2025 study evaluated its association with rapid-response activation in a sepsis cohort. These scores estimate risk from electronic health-record information and do not diagnose a patient. Alert fatigue can occur when staff receive frequent low-value alarms, so sites should validate and calibrate systems with the nurses who use them. The intended role is to augment nursing judgment, not override bedside assessment.
