Cardiac AI studies and products analyze signals or images to support specific tasks, such as rhythm classification, screening, and measurement.

Their intended use, input data, validation, and limitations matter more than a general claim that AI is better than clinicians.
An ECG records electrical activity as a time series, while echocardiography supplies ultrasound images of cardiac motion. These are different inputs with different uses. The 2019 Mayo study evaluated an AI-enabled ECG algorithm for screening for low left-ventricular ejection fraction; it did not establish that every normal-looking tracing reveals every cardiac condition. Echocardiography research includes automated ejection-fraction assessment, with the 2023 blinded trial comparing initial AI and sonographer estimates followed by cardiologist assessment. HeartFlow FFRCT combines coronary CT-derived anatomy with deep-learning and computational-fluid-dynamics methods to estimate lesion-specific physiology. These examples require their own intended-use and validation evidence rather than being interchangeable diagnostic systems.
The Apple Watch ECG app records a waveform similar to a single-lead ECG and offers specified rhythm classifications.
Mayo Clinic researchers studied an ECG-based algorithm for screening for low left-ventricular ejection fraction.
The HeartFlow FFRCT workflow uses coronary CT data with deep-learning and computational-fluid-dynamics methods to estimate coronary physiology.
A blinded randomized echocardiography trial compared AI and sonographer initial ejection-fraction assessments before cardiologist review.
Research continues in signal analysis, imaging assistance, and multimodal assessment. Evaluate each task and patient population independently, including input limitations and clinical workflow. A screening result, a measured imaging quantity, and a CT-based physiological estimate have different meanings. Neither a broad future trend nor a device's availability establishes autonomous diagnosis or guaranteed improved outcomes.

Cardiac AI studies and products analyze signals or images to support specific tasks, such as rhythm classification, screening, and measurement. Their intended use, input data, validation, and limitations matter more than a general claim that AI is better than clinicians.
The app records a single-lead-like electrical waveform and has specified rhythm-classification limits.
The study assessed a specific screening task; its findings should not be generalized to every disease or ECG.
ECG signals and cardiac images are different data modalities, each suited to particular tasks.
FFRCT concerns a modeled physiological assessment of coronary lesions, not a universal diagnosis or outcome prediction.
The trial evaluates a specific assessment workflow, not a guarantee that all cardiac AI has the same performance.
