CUAD frames contract review as identifying important provisions in legal documents; its dataset is not every agreement, jurisdiction, or company playbook. Tools may classify clauses, extract terms, or summarize text to help locate passages. Human review remains important for context and negotiation choices. Federal Rule 26 governs discovery scope and proportionality, including electronically stored information that may be not reasonably accessible because of undue burden or cost. In Mata v. Avianca, a federal court addressed fabricated legal authorities and quotations submitted after AI-assisted research. Verify citations independently. A contract-review playbook records an organization’s preferred clauses and fallback positions. The CUAD research dataset contains 510 commercial contracts annotated across 41 clause categories. Federal Rule of Evidence 901 sets an authentication threshold: evidence must be supported by enough information for a factfinder to determine that it is what its proponent claims. These tools can organize review but do not decide legal effect.
