UX ya Sauti ya Maongezi
Conversational audio UX designs how people and a system take turns, recover from misunderstandings, and complete tasks through speech.
Muhtasari
Good audio quality is only part of the experience. Timing, interruption, feedback, accessibility, and clear control are equally important.
Mambo muhimu ya kuchukua
- Expose listening and processing state.
- Support interruption and correction.
- Provide accessible alternatives for complex tasks.
Dive ya kina
Make the interaction state understandable. Users need to know when the system is listening, processing, speaking, or waiting for clarification. Silence without explanation can be mistaken for a failure, while unnecessary spoken status messages can become distracting. Support natural turn-taking and interruption. A user may pause mid-sentence, correct a detail, or start speaking while the system responds. Test whether the application stops playback, preserves the correction, and avoids executing an outdated interpretation. Keep spoken responses concise enough to follow. Put the key information early and offer detail on request. For complex numbers, lists, or comparisons, provide a visual or text companion when possible. Do not require people to remember a long spoken menu. Design recovery and alternatives. Let users repeat, edit, cancel, or switch input modes. Evaluate the complete task with realistic noise, accents, accessibility needs, and network conditions. A pleasant voice should not hide unclear authority or an unverified action.
Ufahamu wa Kiufundi
End-of-turn detection trades responsiveness against the risk of cutting off a speaker. Its effect should be tested with natural pauses and the languages used by the audience.
Handle a mid-turn correction
- Imagine a user saying “Schedule it for Tuesday—actually, Wednesday afternoon.”
- The interface should preserve the correction rather than acting on Tuesday as soon as it hears a pause.
- Confirm the final interpreted date and time, and test the same interaction with slower speech and background noise.
The constructed exchange tests control and recovery rather than voice pleasantness alone.

Should a voice assistant always answer immediately?
It should be responsive, but not at the expense of cutting off speech or acting on an incomplete request. Test the tradeoff in realistic conversations.
