These features can speed a first pass, but they are edition- and version-dependent and may need correction. Editors should review masks, audio, framing, and output quality rather than treating a feature name as a finished result.

Jin Dive

DaVinci Resolve combines editing, color, visual effects, and audio work. Its Studio edition includes the DaVinci Neural Engine and tools such as Magic Mask, Voice Isolation, Smart Reframe, object removal, and Super Scale. Blackmagic’s product page identifies these features as part of Studio, so first confirm the installed edition and version. The feature names describe different tasks, not one general-purpose editor. Magic Mask uses user-applied clicks to identify a person, object, or feature and create a tracked mask. Blackmagic’s 20.1 guide says results may be imperfect and describes adding or subtracting points and using manual refinement. Review edges, occlusion, reflections, and movement throughout the clip. Voice Isolation can help separate dialogue from distracting sound, but listen for artifacts and compare with the original track. Smart Reframe can help adapt footage to a different frame shape; inspect multiple subjects and important material near the crop edge. Blackmagic describes Super Scale as upscaling HD sources to 4K or 8K. Increasing resolution does not prove that fine detail was present in the original footage. Check text, faces, and motion for artifacts and avoid presenting generated detail as information recovered from the camera. A safe workflow is to test a short representative clip, inspect the result at normal playback and close detail, retain the source, and record which features were used. Confirm output quality before delivery. If a mask, crop, or audio process fails, refine it manually or choose a different edit. The editor remains responsible for the finished sequence.

The Future of AI Features in DaVinci Resolve

Video editors may add more AI-assisted masking, audio separation, reframing, and resolution tools. Exact capabilities can change with Resolve versions and Studio licensing. Automated results still depend on motion, occlusion, noise, source quality, and operator choices. Editors should test on representative footage, keep original media, document settings, and review the rendered result before handing a project to another person. Record the Resolve version and license in project notes, then rerun checks after software or workstation changes because feature availability can change.

Real-World imuse

In a hypothetical color grade, an editor uses Magic Mask to isolate a performer, then adds points where an arm was missed and checks the moving edges.

A post-production assistant tests Voice Isolation on dialogue with background noise and compares the processed track with the original before mixing.

A social editor creates a vertical version with Smart Reframe, then manually adjusts the crop where two speakers share the frame.

An archive tests Super Scale on a short low-resolution clip and compares facial detail and motion against the unchanged source before deciding whether to use it.
