Entry requirements depend on four things: the passport you hold, where you are going, where you connect and why you are traveling. A tourist, a business visitor and a student entering the same country can face different rules. Dual nationals may be treated according to the passport they present. An AI model is good at mapping these variables. It can explain terms such as visa on arrival, e-visa, visa waiver and electronic travel authorization, and it can build a checklist of what you need to verify. The weakness is timing. A language model's knowledge stops at a training cutoff, and entry rules change often. In 2025 the UK extended its Electronic Travel Authorisation to many visa-exempt nationalities, including Americans. The EU has been phasing in its Entry/Exit System, and its ETIAS authorization is planned to follow. A model trained earlier may confidently describe the old rules. AI tools that browse the web can still surface outdated blog posts or unofficial summaries. Passport validity is a common trap. Some countries require six months of validity beyond your arrival date. The Schengen area generally requires a passport that stays valid for at least three months after your planned departure and was issued within the previous ten years. Airlines check these rules at the counter, usually with IATA's Timatic database, and can refuse to board you even if the destination might have let you in. Many people assume that visa-free travel means no paperwork. In fact, many visa-free programs still require an online authorization before departure, such as the US ESTA or Canada's eTA for air travelers. Watch out for lookalike websites that charge inflated fees for these forms. The issuing government's own site links to the official application portal. The safe workflow is to use AI to frame the questions, then get the answers from the destination government, your own foreign ministry's travel advice and your airline.

Governments are moving more border checks online, and electronic authorizations and biometric entry systems are becoming common for visa-exempt travelers. This makes research before a trip more important, not less. Airlines and booking platforms already run document checks during booking, and AI assistants may be connected to more of these official data feeds over time. Even so, the decision made at the border is final, and an AI summary carries no legal weight. The lasting habit is the same whatever tool you use: use AI to understand and organize, and rely on official sources for the answer.

An Indian passport holder flying Delhi to Toronto via Frankfurt asks about transit rules. The AI raises the possibility of an airport transit visa for Germany, which the traveler then checks with the German mission and the airline.
A family asks an AI to check their passport expiry dates against a planned Thailand trip. The AI notes that many countries expect six months of validity and blank pages, which leads them to renew one child's passport early.
