Khanmigo is Khan Academy’s AI-powered learning assistant, with student tutoring and educator-facing tools integrated with the nonprofit’s instructional content.
Its tutoring design aims to guide students with questions rather than simply give answers, but generated responses can be wrong and access to student features depends on the account or school arrangement.
Khanmigo is Khan Academy’s AI learning assistant. Its student-facing tutor is designed to encourage problem solving through questions and hints, while teacher tools can help draft lesson plans, quizzes, worksheets, and feedback. The service draws on Khan Academy’s educational content, but a tutoring prompt is not a guarantee of a correct explanation or an effective lesson. A student can use a guided hint to make progress on an equation without seeing a finished answer. The teacher or family should still check whether the student understood the method and whether the explanation fits the course. Educator-generated worksheets, quizzes, or essay feedback need review for accuracy, reading level, fairness, and alignment to the lesson. Do not return unedited AI feedback as a teacher’s final judgment. Access arrangements differ. Khan Academy’s current help page says student access is available through official Khan Academy Districts partnerships, parent-supervised homeschooling, or adults over 18 purchasing it for themselves; pilots may select only certain schools, teachers, or students. These conditions can change, so confirm the current plan and eligibility before designing a class around the tool. Teacher tools and student tutoring may also have different availability. Khan Academy advises educators that AI outputs may contain errors and that Khanmigo is not intended for personally identifiable information. Avoid entering student names, grades, disability details, or private struggles. Check the school’s approval and data practices, especially for a district deployment. Give learners clear expectations, a route to a teacher when answers are uncertain, and a way to report a problematic interaction. Evaluate whether the tool supports learning, not just how many questions it answers.

Education platforms may expand guided practice and teacher workflows as model features evolve. Khan Academy’s own guidance stresses human review and cautions against entering personally identifiable information. Schools should reassess access, privacy terms, and student outcomes as features or partnership conditions change. Access eligibility, prices, and tool menus may change. Schools should confirm current support documentation, communicate with families, and review student data protections before each rollout. Changes to school partnerships can affect whether students remain eligible. Recheck the vendor guidance.
A student stuck on a quadratic equation is prompted to describe what they tried before receiving a hint to factor the expression.
A teacher uses an educator tool to draft differentiated photosynthesis worksheets and checks the questions against the lesson objective.
An instructor reviews AI-generated feedback on persuasive essays and edits comments before returning them to students.
A district pilot selects participating students and teachers, gives families usage guidance, and reviews feedback before considering broader access.
