Separately, reward-tuning research uses human-feedback reward models to steer diffusion outputs toward selected preferences; this is a general method, not evidence that Imagen 2 itself used a particular reward-tuning pipeline.
Google describes Imagen 2 as a diffusion-based text-to-image model and reported improved prompt detail alignment, photorealism, realistic hands, faces, and fewer visual artifacts. Its 2024 Vertex AI announcement documented inpainting to remove or add elements and outpainting to extend image borders. Google also said images generated by Imagen 2 in its consumer products would carry an imperceptible, detectable SynthID watermark. Separately, reward-tuned diffusion is a research method: researchers gather human judgments of generated images, train a reward function to predict those judgments, and fine-tune a text-to-image model to maximize a reward-weighted objective. This resembles RLHF conceptually, but generic reward-tuning papers do not establish that Imagen 2 used that exact method. The original Imagen research describes a large pretrained text encoder and a cascade of diffusion models; treat those details as the original research architecture unless a version-specific source confirms them for Imagen 2.
Google reported improved prompt detail alignment, more realistic hands and faces, and fewer distracting artifacts for Imagen 2.
In a supported Vertex AI workflow, Imagen 2 could use inpainting to add or remove image elements.
The documented Vertex AI workflow also included outpainting to extend image borders.
Google said images generated with Imagen 2 in its consumer products would include a detectable SynthID watermark.
Research continues on using human feedback to evaluate and tune text-to-image systems, while products add editing and provenance features. Results depend on the feedback signal, model, and evaluation task; current studies do not show that reward tuning is the default for every image generator or that preferences can safely be personalized without tradeoffs. Watermarks such as SynthID can support identification in supported workflows, but provenance tools should be described within their documented coverage and detection limits.

Imagen 2 ist ein Diffusionsmodell: Es lernt, einen Rauschprozess umzukehren und zufälliges Rauschen in ein detailliertes, durch Text geführtes Bild umzuwandeln.
Reward-tuning research trains a reward function from human judgments, then uses that score to guide model fine-tuning. This describes the general method, not a confirmed Imagen 2 training detail.
The cited text-to-image alignment research explicitly draws an analogy to RLHF: human preferences train a reward function that guides later fine-tuning.
The cited method trains a reward function from human-labeled image-text feedback and fine-tunes the model by maximizing reward-weighted likelihood; this is not asserted as Imagen 2's implementation.
Where SynthID is integrated, it embeds an imperceptible watermark that helps identify AI-generated images, including after some common edits.
