Yes. NOVA is free to use and you don't need an account. It is run by AI Understanding, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supported by donations.

What can I ask NOVA?

Anything about artificial intelligence: how ChatGPT and other large language models work, machine learning basics, writing better prompts, choosing AI tools, and AI safety and ethics. If you ask about something else, NOVA answers briefly and brings you back to learning about AI.

Can NOVA quiz me?

Yes. After any answer, tap Quiz me and NOVA writes a multiple-choice question about what you just covered. Choose an answer to see whether you were right and why, then ask for the next one, which gets a little harder each time. NOVA keeps your score for the session.

Where do NOVA's answers come from?

NOVA runs on large language models chosen by AI Understanding, and every answer is grounded in the most relevant of the 3,000 guides in our free library. The guides it used are listed under the answer so you can check them and read more.

Is NOVA a real person?

No. NOVA is an AI tutor that runs on large language models chosen by AI Understanding. Like any AI, it can make mistakes, so check important information.

How do I talk to NOVA with my voice?

Tap Voice mode under the hologram and speak. NOVA answers out loud and in writing, then listens again, so you can keep the conversation going hands-free. Tap the button again to stop. Voice input works in browsers with speech recognition, such as Chrome, Edge and Safari.

Which languages does NOVA speak?

NOVA answers in all 40 of the site's languages. Choose your language from the flag in the menu. In most of them NOVA also reads its answers aloud; where a voice isn't available, your browser's own voice is used if it has one.

What happens to my conversation?

The messages needed to answer you are sent to the AI provider that powers NOVA. AI Understanding does not store raw tutor conversations in its learner database; your chat is kept in your browser until you clear it.
