AI Understanding は、オープンアクセス教育に取り組む非営利団体です。当社は、責任ある運営、信頼性の向上、および当社からの意見を希望する人々とのコミュニケーションに必要な最小限の情報を収集します。

What we collect

  • ニュースレター購読用の電子メール アドレス。
  • Account information (name and email) when you create an account.

  • Anonymous visit statistics for every visitor: pages viewed, the referring site and campaign tags, your country (no city or region), device and browser type, and actions such as starting a quiz. These are counted without cookies or browser storage and are not linked to you.
  • Only if you choose “Allow measurement”: fuller analytics that recognize a returning browser, link visits to your account when you are signed in, and record a small sample of visits as session replays with form inputs masked.

How we use information

AI tutor NOVA data

When you use the AI tutor NOVA, the messages needed to answer your question are sent to the live AI provider configured for the service. AI Understanding does not write raw tutor conversations to its learner database. For signed-in learners, quizzes can create an aggregate skill record containing a score, attempt count, and review date so we can recommend practice; it does not contain the question or answer text. Your saved tutor conversation is kept in your browser's local storage until you clear it or remove the site's stored data.

Please do not share passwords, financial information, medical details, confidential school records, or other sensitive personal information with the tutor. Organizations deploying the tutor for students should contact us before use so appropriate contracts, access controls, retention rules, and educational privacy requirements can be reviewed.

What we do not do

Third-party services

We use trusted service providers for email delivery, authentication, donation processing, site analytics (PostHog; Ahrefs Web Analytics, which uses no cookies; and, only with your permission, Microsoft Clarity), ad measurement (Google Ads; and, only with your permission, X), and error and performance monitoring (Sentry). These providers are expected to follow strong security and privacy standards.

Analytics

Every visit is counted with PostHog in a cookieless mode: nothing is stored on your device, you are not identified, and no profile or session recording is made. PostHog tells visits apart with a one-way hash of your IP address, browser user agent and our domain using a secret that changes daily, so the same browser cannot be recognized across days. For these visits only your country is recorded, taken from the country code our network provider, Cloudflare, attaches to each request; no city or region is recorded. Analytics requests pass through our own server, which forwards your IP address to PostHog for that daily hash and, only after you choose “Allow measurement,” to estimate approximate location. Cookies and identifiers for fuller analytics are used only after you choose “Allow measurement,” and you can withdraw that at any time. Account events such as sign-ups, sign-ins and payments are recorded by our server as part of running your account.

Error and performance monitoring

We use Sentry, operated by Functional Software, Inc., to find errors and understand site performance. Sentry does not record session replays. In your browser, Sentry loads only after you choose “Allow measurement.” Error reports from our servers and edge runtime are part of operating the site. Those reports do not include cookies, authorization headers, request bodies, or user information. In production, about 2% of performance traces are sent. Server warning and error log lines are also sent to Sentry after emails, tokens, and other sensitive text are removed. Sentry processes this data in the United States. See Sentry’s privacy policy.

Data retention
