Pennington, Socher, and Manning describe a weighted regression objective that connects vector dot products with log co-occurrence counts. The method was introduced by Stanford researchers in 2014.
The GloVe paper organizes corpus statistics in a global co-occurrence matrix. Its objective fits a vector dot product plus bias terms to the logarithm of a nonzero co-occurrence count, weighted by a function of that count. The paper motivates the objective with ratios of co-occurrence probabilities and reports results on particular word-similarity and analogy benchmarks. GloVe produces static vectors: a word has the same vector across sentence contexts. Pennington, Socher, and Manning introduced GloVe at Stanford in 2014. For analogy evaluation, the paper uses vector arithmetic such as b − a + c and searches for a nearby word vector; this is an evaluated procedure, not a guarantee that every relation is linear.
Paper concept: build a word-word co-occurrence matrix from a corpus.
Paper concept: fit vectors and biases to weighted log-count observations.
Paper evaluation: test word similarity and analogy behavior on the benchmarks reported by the authors.
Illustrative use: compare static vectors as one baseline for a narrowly defined text task.
Evaluate GloVe on the target corpus and task if static embeddings are under consideration. Compare against relevant baselines and disclose vocabulary and preprocessing choices. The cited work does not establish current adoption, market share, or named product deployments.
