GPT-4 and GPT-4o are historical OpenAI model families with distinct capabilities and release timelines.

The original GPT-4 report, GPT-4 Turbo announcement and GPT-4o announcement describe different versions; ChatGPT availability and API availability are separate.
OpenAI’s 2023 GPT-4 announcement described image inputs in a research preview, and its technical report says the model was fine-tuned with RLHF. In November 2023, OpenAI announced GPT-4 Turbo with a 128K context window. GPT-4o launched in 2024 as an omni model with text, audio and image capabilities. OpenAI later retired GPT-4o from ChatGPT on February 13, 2026; API deprecations are documented separately and may have different dates. These claims refer to specific product surfaces and model versions. Before GPT-4o, ChatGPT Voice Mode used a three-model pipeline: speech recognition converted audio to text, a GPT model processed it, then text-to-speech generated audio. OpenAI described GPT-4o as an end-to-end model trained across text, vision and audio for direct input/output. These are generation-specific descriptions. OpenAI also announced GPT-4o access for free ChatGPT users with usage limits; that statement concerns ChatGPT availability and does not imply unlimited access or API availability.

Checking the November 2023 DevDay post for GPT-4 Turbo’s 128K context window.
Treating RLHF as a post-training method described for GPT-4, not as the source of all model capability.
Checking separate ChatGPT retirement and API deprecation notices for the exact model/version.
Before using or citing an OpenAI model, verify the model identifier and product surface in current official release and deprecation documentation. Historical capabilities do not establish present-day availability.

OpenAI’s GPT-4 report says the model’s behavior was fine-tuned using reinforcement learning with human feedback (RLHF). This question is specific to GPT-4 and does not generalize the claim to GPT-4o.
