Granite Asia and Google’s AI Futures Fund have launched a co‑investment program for AI startups across Asia. The partnership will provide up to $2 million in equity funding per startup, together with up to $350,000 in Google Cloud and Gemini credits, early access to Google’s AI models, and joint development support from Google and DeepMind teams. Startups will be sourced through Granite Asia’s existing fellows program, evaluated jointly by both parties, and will operate in five focus areas: AI × Science and Knowledge, AI × Industry Transformation, AI × Work, AI × Creativity, and AI × Entertainment. Founders retain full choice over the underlying AI technology they use.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by Granite Asia, the joint program will source founders through its existing fellows network and evaluate them together with Google’s AI Futures Fund. Selected companies will receive a combined equity investment of up to $2 million, split between the two investors, though the exact split was not disclosed.

In addition to cash, each startup will obtain up to $350,000 in Google Cloud and Gemini credits, which can be used for , storage, and access to Google’s models. The partnership also promises early access to Google’s AI models and joint development work with engineers from Google and its DeepMind lab, offering technical mentorship that goes beyond typical venture capital support.

Granite Asia, which manages roughly $11 billion and has backed more than 120 companies and 70 public listings, highlighted five thematic areas for the program. These span from scientific research to creative entertainment, reflecting a broad ambition to seed AI across multiple industry verticals.

The deal signals a major infusion of capital and technical resources into the Asian AI ecosystem, where venture funding has lagged behind North America and Europe. By pairing Granite Asia’s $11 billion private‑capital platform with Google’s AI Futures Fund, the program offers both financial backing and direct access to cutting‑edge models such as Gemini, potentially accelerating product development and global scaling for Asian founders. The inclusion of DeepMind collaboration adds research‑grade expertise that could raise the technical bar of participating startups. If successful, the initiative may shift the geographic balance of AI innovation, encourage more region‑specific AI solutions, and deepen Google’s foothold in the Asian market.

The Asian AI market has attracted increasing attention, but many founders still face barriers to accessing large‑scale and advanced models. By bundling capital with cloud credits and model access, the program lowers these barriers and could accelerate time‑to‑market for innovative AI solutions.

Google’s involvement provides a direct for its Gemini and DeepMind technologies into the region, potentially shaping the direction of AI research and product development in Asia. This could also give Google early insight into emerging use‑cases that may inform its own product roadmap.

The partnership may encourage other global investors to adopt similar hybrid‑investment models, blending financial support with technical resources, thereby reshaping how AI startups are funded worldwide.

Key indicators to monitor include the number and profile of startups selected in the first cohort, the speed at which they integrate Google models, and any subsequent follow‑on funding rounds. Watch for announcements of joint products or services that emerge from the collaboration, as well as any regulatory responses in Asian jurisdictions to increased foreign AI investment. The program’s impact on competition among other AI investors in the region will also be telling.

The composition and size of the first cohort of startups, including the sectors they target and the founders’ backgrounds.

The speed and depth of integration of Google’s Gemini models into the startups’ products, which will indicate the practical value of the early‑access promise.

Any regulatory scrutiny or policy changes in key Asian markets (e.g., Singapore, India, Japan) that could affect cross‑border AI investment and data usage.

Follow‑on funding rounds or strategic exits that may arise from the program, signaling its success in creating investable, scalable AI companies.
