Delta Lake adds a transaction log and ACID transactions to tables, MLflow supports experiment tracking, and Unity Catalog governs data and AI assets; capabilities depend on the deployed product and configuration.

Databricks was founded in 2013 by creators of Apache Spark and related open-source projects. Its lakehouse platform uses Delta Lake as an optimized storage layer with a transaction log and ACID transactions. MLflow Tracking records parameters, metrics, code versions, and artifacts for experiments. Unity Catalog provides governance controls for data and AI assets, including tables, models, functions, and services. Databricks completed its acquisition of MosaicML in 2023 and announced DBRX in 2024. These product and company milestones do not imply that any particular workload will be faster or cheaper; deployments depend on configuration and measurement. Databricks describes the lakehouse as combining the flexibility and cost characteristics of data lakes with data-warehouse management and performance goals. Those goals are not guaranteed results for every workload.
