Voice biometrics compares speech-derived templates to support speaker verification.

It concerns identity-related voice characteristics rather than transcribing words, but matching errors, spoofing, and applicable authentication requirements limit its use.
Enrollment creates a reference template from speech; a later probe recording is processed into another representation and compared with that reference. A voiceprint is a numerical template, not necessarily the raw recording or its transcript. Text-dependent verification uses a specified phrase, whereas text-independent verification permits varying spoken content. Neither mode guarantees that language, channel, noise, or duration has no effect. Modern speaker embeddings can be scored with cosine similarity or a PLDA backend and compared with a decision threshold. This is speaker recognition, distinct from ASR's word transcription. A score is evidence from a model rather than proof of identity, and replayed or synthetic speech creates additional security concerns.
Studying how a caller's probe recording compares with an enrolled voice template.
Evaluating fixed-passphrase and conversational speaker-verification systems on representative audio.
Testing whether replayed or synthesized speech can fool a voice-comparison system.
Assessing local template matching together with the application's actual capture, storage, and transmission controls.
Speaker-comparison research continues to address short utterances, changing channels, and synthetic speech. Authentication deployments must meet their applicable requirements. NIST SP 800-63B-4 prohibits voice-based biometric comparison within its digital-authentication framework; this should not be described as a worldwide ban on all speaker-recognition uses. Product availability alone is not evidence of compliance with a particular standard.

Speaker recognition concerns the speaker; ASR concerns what was said. Neither task guarantees performance across all conditions.
Los sistemas calculan una puntuación de similitud (por ejemplo, similitud de coseno o PLDA) entre incorporaciones y la comparan con un umbral de decisión.
Speaker matching and presentation-attack resistance are different evaluation problems.
