AI can help students brainstorm, draft, edit or produce parts of a podcast, video, comic or digital story.
A strong project makes each learner’s decisions visible, protects people represented in the work, and records which media are generated, adapted or sourced.
Multimedia assignments let students combine research, writing, sound, images and editing to communicate an idea. Generative AI can support ideation, storyboarding, caption drafts, audio cleanup or visual concepts. These are different forms of assistance, and each assignment should specify which are allowed. Students should still make and explain meaningful choices rather than submit an opaque sequence of model outputs. Design the project around learning goals. A podcast might assess source evaluation and oral explanation; a video might assess argument structure and visual evidence. Require process artifacts such as an outline, source list, storyboard, prompt log or revision notes. Students can identify where AI helped and explain which suggestions they changed or rejected. This makes authorship and learning visible without assuming that a tool used once created the whole work. Teach source and permission checks before publication. For music, photos, clips, voices and fonts, use material the class is allowed to use and follow school guidance. Ask permission before recording or depicting classmates; do not upload identifiable student images, voices or private information to unapproved services. Copyright and privacy rules vary by context, and classroom use does not automatically make every public reuse permissible. The U.S. Copyright Office’s guidance on AI explains that copyrightability depends on human authorship and the human contribution to the work; it does not resolve every permission question about source materials. Provide accessible formats: captions, transcripts, alt text and readable contrast. Review generated media for stereotypes, factual errors and harmful depictions. Before sharing, check the school’s policy, licenses, disclosures and audience. The final project should show the student’s learning, cite its sources and make AI assistance understandable to viewers.

AI editing and generation may make professional-looking media easier for students to produce, while increasing the need to teach provenance and ethical representation. Future classrooms may use collaborative canvases where prompts, edits and source assets stay connected to the final project. Schools should still assess process and reasoning, not only production polish. Clear age-appropriate tool rules, accessible alternatives and privacy protections will help students experiment without making classmates’ identity or creative work an unintended input. Teachers can ask students to explain their production choices and identify what would need permission before distribution.
A student plans a history podcast with AI-generated interview questions but verifies facts through primary sources and writes the final narration.
A group creates a short video using generated background art, labels AI-assisted elements and checks image rights before sharing it publicly.
