ReAct research interleaves reasoning traces and actions; MCP specifies how clients discover and call server tools.
ReAct research interleaves model-generated reasoning traces and task-specific actions. The action can query an external source or environment; the resulting observation is then used in the next reasoning step. The Model Context Protocol (MCP) documents a client-server mechanism for listing named tools with descriptions and input schemas, then invoking a selected tool with arguments. The specification describes tool results and two error forms: protocol errors such as unknown tools or invalid arguments, and execution errors returned in results. Its user-interaction guidance recommends visible tool-use indicators and confirmation prompts so a human can deny invocations. Protocol connectivity does not guarantee result accuracy or authorize every action.
A ReAct-style system can query an external knowledge base and use the returned result as an observation.
An MCP client can discover a server tool by name and input schema before calling it.
A tool call can return structured or unstructured data, including an error result.
Applications can show which tools are exposed and request confirmation for operations.
Evaluate tool-use systems for incorrect arguments, failed calls, untrusted results and repeated-action loops. Apply confirmation controls according to action risk, and test that users can identify and deny tool invocations.
