Résumé

Google’s Pixel Phone app Scam Detection can alert during eligible calls based on patterns associated with scams; it is opt-in, region-limited, and not fully accurate. A warning is a cue to pause and verify a request, not proof that a caller is criminal.

Plongeur bu xóot

Google describes Scam Detection in the Phone app as a Pixel-only feature available on specified models and in listed countries. On Pixel 9 and later it uses Gemini Nano on-device; earlier supported Pixels use Google on-device machine-learning models. The feature is off by default, can be disabled, and processes call data on the device according to Google’s help page. Google says conversation audio or transcription is not stored or sent to its servers for Scam Detection. Audible beeps indicate the feature is active during the call. The detector looks for patterns associated with scams and can alert through sound, vibration, or notification. Google cautions that not all scam calls will be detected and scammers change tactics. This differs from caller-ID spam labels and from Call Screen, which asks a caller why they are calling before the user answers. Scam Detection may run during a call; it does not verify that a caller is who they claim to be and should not determine a legal finding. When an alert appears, stop before sharing credentials, payment codes, or remote access. Contact the institution using a known number or official app. Check model, SIM country, device location, Phone app version, and opt-in setting before expecting the feature. Use ordinary caution even without an alert, and do not rely on the detector to screen every text, messaging app, or phone brand.

The Future of AI Scam Detection on Phones

Availability, supported regions, model use, and opt-in controls can change. New scam tactics may outpace detection, and language or device restrictions can leave users without the feature. Maintain verification habits and an alternative report channel; treat alerts as risk signals rather than verdicts. Model coverage, countries, opt-in controls, and supported device generations can change. Emerging scripts and voice-cloning tactics may not match known patterns. Keep human verification and official reporting channels available, even when the on-device system reports low risk.

Doxal ci àdduna dëgg

A Pixel 9 user in a supported country enables Scam Detection and sees a warning during a call using urgent payment language.

A Pixel 6 user in the U.S. checks the Phone app’s Scam Detection availability and understands it uses a different on-device model generation.

A user pauses an unexpected bank call and dials the number printed on the card instead of sharing an authentication code.

A caller receives the feature’s audible notice that Scam Detection is active while the user retains the option to turn it off.
