Hyundai Motor Group and Boston Dynamics launched the Boston Dynamics AI Institute in 2022 with an initial investment of more than $400 million, led by Marc Raibert. The organization is now the Robotics and AI Institute (RAI). Its current research areas include dexterous manipulation, advanced learning for control, data-driven models for physical interaction, navigation in challenging environments, and ethics of robots in society. RAI and Boston Dynamics announced a 2025 partnership to use reinforcement learning to develop dynamic mobile-manipulation behaviors for the electric Atlas robot. RAI is a research institute, not a robot product line.
