The OpenPose papers describe multi-person 2D pose estimation, including bottom-up association of parts and top-down detection failure when nearby people are missed. Image-plane keypoints do not establish 3D depth or medical status.
The original OpenPose paper presents a bottom-up system that jointly predicts confidence maps for body-part locations and Part Affinity Fields (PAFs) for associations. Its parser uses PAF scores in bipartite matching to assemble candidate parts into person-specific poses. The paper notes that a top-down pipeline can miss people close together; downstream pose estimation cannot recover a missed detection. The later OpenPose paper describes body, foot, hand and facial keypoints. These are image-plane outputs, not clinical measures or 3D coordinates.
Predicting confidence maps for body-part locations.
Associating candidate body parts with Part Affinity Fields and bipartite matching.
Comparing bottom-up parsing with top-down pipelines that depend on person detections.
Estimating body, foot, hand and facial keypoints in the OpenPose system.
Evaluate keypoint estimation under the target conditions, including crowding, occlusion and camera variation. Any use beyond image-plane pose estimation requires additional evidence and task-specific validation.

OpenPose’s network predicts confidence maps for body-part locations, alongside Part Affinity Fields used to associate body parts.
The paper describes a parser that performs bipartite matching using PAF scores, then assembles body-part candidates into full poses.
The paper notes that top-down pipelines can miss people in close proximity; a downstream pose estimator cannot recover a person whose detection was missed.
