Descripción general

A generated draft should be reviewed with the student, family, and educator, and it should not be presented as a substitute for individualized support or professional judgment.

Buceo profundo

Social narratives explain a situation, possible perspectives, and actions that may help a learner understand or navigate an event. Social Stories is also a specific approach with defined criteria developed by Carol Gray; a generic AI-written story should not automatically be labeled a Social Story. Educators should consult the current criteria when using that named method. AI can help turn notes into a first draft, adjust reading level, or produce alternate wording. The educator supplies context such as where the event occurs, what typically happens, and what choices are available. The tool may invent routines, assume feelings, or describe a student in a deficit-focused way. Verify every detail with people who know the setting and learner. A useful narrative is concrete, respectful, and individualized. It can explain what the student may see, hear, or choose to do without implying that there is one required emotional response. The student should have a chance to review the language and images when possible. Include options for asking for help, taking a break, or communicating discomfort if these fit the support plan. AI-generated text should not be treated as a behavior intervention or evidence-based treatment by itself. Social narratives work best when they fit the learner's communication style and goals, and their value should be assessed in context. Collaborate with special educators, families, therapists, and the student rather than making the tool the decision-maker. Protect student information. Use fictional or minimal details when possible, follow school policies for third-party tools, and avoid uploading education records or sensitive behavior notes without authorization. Store only the approved version, and keep the narrative aligned with real school procedures so it does not promise an event will happen exactly as written.

The Future of AI for Social Stories in Special Education

AI may make it easier to create alternate formats, translations, or visual supports for social narratives. Those options will be most useful when learners and educators control the details and can reject inaccurate assumptions. Privacy safeguards and fidelity to established methods will matter as schools adopt new tools. Human review remains central to making a narrative respectful, accurate, and useful. Translation and multimodal features may expand access, but the learner and support team should remain involved. Review each version for accuracy and respectful language.

Implementación en el mundo real

A teacher uses an AI draft to describe what may happen during a fire drill, then edits it to match the school's actual routine.

A family and educator review a story about joining a group activity to ensure the tone is respectful and reflects the student's perspective.

A special educator removes unnecessary personal details before using an AI tool to draft language for a classroom transition.

A team creates a short, concrete narrative with pictures chosen by the student, then checks whether the material is useful in the real setting.

Riesgos y barandillas
