GUIDE DE L'IA Visuelle
Monocular depth estimation predicts scene depth from one image.

A single view usually leaves absolute scale ambiguous, so a model’s output may be relative unless calibrated or otherwise constrained.
Self-supervised monocular methods can use adjacent frames and camera motion to reconstruct a target view, minimizing photometric differences. Monodepth2 adds techniques such as per-pixel minimum reprojection and auto-masking. Such methods depend on assumptions about scene motion and camera geometry. Foundation-model releases such as Depth Anything are version-specific; do not infer metric accuracy in a new environment from a benchmark result. A single image provides visual cues such as relative object size, perspective convergence, texture gradients, and occlusion, but not direct stereo disparity. Depth Anything V2’s reported recipe trains a DINOv2-G teacher on synthetic labeled images, uses it to pseudo-label large-scale unlabeled real images, and trains student models on those pseudo-labels. The paper introduces DA-2K, with 1,000 images and 2,000 sparse relative-depth pixel pairs across diverse scenes. Its benchmark results are specific to the paper and do not guarantee performance in every environment or metric scale.
Use a monocular model to estimate relative foreground-background ordering.
Train self-supervised depth with adjacent video frames and view reconstruction.
Compare a named Depth Anything release with its documented benchmark and license.
Add calibrated sensors when an application requires metric distance.
Large-scale data and new model families can improve generalization, but zero-shot behavior remains task- and domain-dependent. Validate the exact checkpoint and do not use relative depth as calibrated range without evidence.

Monocular depth estimation predicts scene depth from one image. A single view usually leaves absolute scale ambiguous, so a model’s output may be relative unless calibrated or otherwise constrained.
« Monoculaire » signifie un œil/une caméra ; la méthode prédit la profondeur à partir d'une seule image RVB sans capteurs de profondeur stéréo ou actifs.
Monocular estimators predict depth structure from one camera view; depending on the model, the output may be relative or metric.
Depth Anything V2 describes training a DINOv2-G teacher on synthetic labeled images, generating pseudo-depth for unlabeled real images, and training student models on those pseudo-labeled images.
Single-image methods infer depth from visual structure such as relative object size, perspective, texture gradients, and occlusion; they do not directly measure stereo disparity between two simultaneous cameras.
Monodepth2 introduces auto-masking to handle pixels violating the camera-motion assumptions.
