How Knowledge Cutoff works

Example

A model with a cutoff in early 2024 will not know about events after that unless it can search the web or is given the information. Ask it about last week's news and it may guess or say it does not know.

Why it matters

Answers about recent events, prices, or laws may be out of date. Knowing the cutoff tells you when to supply fresh sources.

Training uses a fixed snapshot of data, and the model is then released as that version.
