Learning

Is everything really free?

The guides, news, glossary, quizzes, prompt library, tutor and tools are free with no account required and no paywall. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit funded by donations and sponsorship rather than subscriptions. The only paid thing on the site is an optional certificate, and the quizzes behind it are free to take either way.

I know nothing about AI. Where should I start?

Start with the What is AI guide, then follow the Foundations learning path, which orders the core guides from first principles to practical use. If you would rather ask than read, the free AI tutor will meet you at your level and explain unfamiliar words as it goes.

Can I read the site in my language?

Yes. Use the language switcher in the header or at the foot of any page. Translated pages live on their own URLs, so you can link to and share them directly.

Who writes and reviews the content?

Our editorial team, with each author's background published on the authors page. How we research, source and review material is documented in our editorial standards, and every correction we make is logged publicly.

Quizzes & certification

How does the certificate work?

Pass 50 of the free quizzes at 80% or above, then choose a tier to unlock an account-linked, publicly verifiable certificate. Taking the quizzes and tracking your progress is free; only issuing the certificate is paid.

What does the certificate cost?

Certifying starts at $49 as a one-time payment with lifetime access and no subscription. Higher tiers add a timed final and an educator option. The current tiers and what each includes are listed on the certification page, which is the authoritative source if prices change.

Do I need an account to take quizzes?

No, but progress towards a certificate is tied to an account. Without one your results are not saved across devices, so create a free account before working through the 50 quizzes if you intend to certify.

Can I get a refund?

Refund terms for certificates and paid listings are set out in the refund policy. If your situation is not covered there, contact us and a person will read it.

Your account

I cannot sign in or forgot my password.

Use the forgot-password link on the sign-in page to receive a reset email. If the email does not arrive, check spam, then contact us — we can confirm whether an account exists for your address.

How do I delete my account and data?

You can delete your account from your account settings, which removes your profile along with the saved progress and bookmarks attached to it. What we store and for how long is described in the privacy policy.

How do I unsubscribe from emails?

Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link that works without signing in. You can also switch between the daily briefing and the weekly digest from the preference link in any issue.

Donations

Are donations tax-deductible?

AI Understanding is an IRS-recognised 501(c)(3) public charity, EIN 41-3273048, so donations are tax-deductible in the United States to the extent allowed by law. Your own tax position is between you and your adviser.

How do I change or cancel a monthly donation?

Monthly gifts can be changed or cancelled at any time. If you cannot find the controls in the account you gave through, contact us with the email you used and we will sort it out.

Where does the money actually go?

Donations fund the guides, quizzes, news and translations that stay free to everyone. How the nonprofit is funded, and what we will and will not accept money for, is set out in the funding disclosure and donor policy.

Listing a tool

How do I get my AI tool listed?

Submit it through the listing page. Listings go through editorial review rather than being published automatically, and paying does not buy a favourable review or a higher position.

How long does listing review take, and can I see performance?

Reviews are handled by a person, and the support desk targets one to three business days for a first reply. Once a listing is live, its performance metrics are available from the tool performance page.

Accuracy & reuse

I found something wrong. How do I report it?

Use the report-an-issue page and include the page URL and the specific sentence or claim. Corrections we make are published in a public log rather than quietly edited.

Can I use your content in my class, article or video?

Our statistics roundups are licensed CC BY 4.0, so they are free to quote with attribution. For other pages, and for the citation formats we recommend, see the citation page — and if your use is not covered, ask us.

Is this site written by AI?

Our editorial standards describe exactly how material is researched, drafted, sourced and reviewed, including where automation is used in the newsroom and what a human checks before anything publishes. We would rather you read that than take a one-word answer from us.

My question is not answered here.

Contact us. Billing, listing review, corrections, donations and education partnerships all start at the same desk, every request is read by a person, and the target for a first reply is one to three business days.
