Mozambique has launched the Mozambican Association of Artificial Intelligence (AMIA) in Maputo on August 27, 2026. The association aims to bring together government, academia, researchers, businesses, technology professionals, entrepreneurs, and civil society to support the development of the country's AI ecosystem.

AMIA is expected to serve as a technical platform connecting different parts of Mozambique's AI ecosystem.

The association could support work in areas such as agriculture, health, education, banking, industry, public services, and digital inclusion.

Mozambique is already developing a National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, In April 2026, Mozambique created a National Artificial Intelligence Commission, and in May the International Telecommunication Union agreed to support the establishment of an AI regulatory sandbox for testing and developing AI applications under regulatory oversight.
